Adult Formation

At different times of the year, we offer Adult Bible Study, a Foundations introduction course, single-day seminars, book studies, and newcomers’ classes.

Many of our formation offerings emerge from questions and interests within the community. If there’s something you want to learn more about, just ask!

Revive: Engaging in Scripture

The difference between knowing about God and being in relationship with God has been compared to the difference between reading a menu and eating the meal. Attending church and serving in ministry may not always mean that our hearts and souls are being nourished and finding life in Christ. This fall, you’re invited to begin a journey of finding life-giving rhythms that guide you into an ongoing relationship with God. We will begin by taking six weeks to think about scripture: what it is, how to engage with it, and practices for transformation.

If you are craving more for your spiritual journey, this group is for you. Groups will be offered at two times: Tuesday evenings from 6:45pm-8:15pm and Wednesdays from 10:30am-11:45am beginning the week of October 6th. Sign ups can be found in The Gathering Space or in the eNews.

Jesus did not come into the world so that we would attend church and add a few more things to our to-do lists; he came so that we might know the freedom and full life that is found in a close, intimate relationship with the One who loves us beyond imagining.

Show & Tell

Remember the excitement of show-and-tell days at school? Scanning your room for treasures that could be shared and being surprised by what your friends found to share. What if we brought show-and-tell back? That’s exactly what we’re hoping to do this year!

Have you read an article or listened to a podcast lately that you’d like to discuss with others? Do you have a hobby, discipline, or interest you’d be willing to share about? Consider bringing it to show-and-tell! On Sundays following the 10am service stick around for an extra hour to learn, discuss, and build community.

To get us started, we will gather on September 28th to discuss a podcast that explores the question what does it feel like to believe in God. Stay tuned for more opportunities. If you have something you would like to share, please talk to Mtr. Melesa.

Fall Lazy Book Club

The Lazy Book Club returns! After a successful summer read, we will read Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green. Why lazy? Because we will meet ONCE to discuss the book together on Sunday, October 5th, at 11:30am. Our discussion will be led by Andrew Rieder-Van Hout. You can sign up in the Gathering Space or via the link in the weekly eNews, purchase the book, and read at your own pace!

About the Book

Tuberculosis has been entwined with humanity for millennia. Once romanticized as a malady of poets, today tuberculosis is a disease of poverty that walks the trails of injustice and inequity we blazed for it. In 2019, John Green met Henry, a young tuberculosis patient in Sierra Leone. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In Everything is Tuberculosis, John tells Henry’s story, woven through with the scientific and social histories of how tuberculosis has shaped our world and how our choices will shape the future of tuberculosis. While this is a story about tuberculosis, it is also a story about our shared humanity, and systems of poverty and injustice.
